  3. achieved--or what amounts to 
  4. the same thing, when subjects 
  5. are initially told about the 
  6. alternatives--the situation is 
  7. entirely different 
  8. psychologically. Now the 
  9. observer knows that the figure 
  10. is reversible, and the 
  11. alternative perceptions are 
  12. represented in memory. 
  13. Therefore, merely thinking 
  14. about the alternative not being 
  15. perceived at any given moment 
  16. may suffice to lead to a 
  17. perceptual reorganization in 
  18. which it is perceived. In short, 
  19. the explanation of reversal in 
  20. the case of informed observers 
  21. may have more to do with an 
  22. intention to reverse and a 
  23. shifting memory reference 
  24. than with neural fatigue. 
  25. However, as noted above, the 
  26. fatigue theory cannot be ruled 
  27. out as a contributing factor; 
  28. some evidence supports it.
